Match Preview: Manchester United vs Southampton

Kick Off Time 3:00pm

Team News

Manchester United
  • Tom Cleverley withdrew from the England squad for the recent World Cup qualifiers with a calf injury and could miss out this weekend.
  • Rio Ferdinand should have recovered from the groin injury that kept him out of the last two of united's games and he could return to the heart of the defence.
  • Rafael's fitness is in doubt so Chris Smalling could play at right-back.
Southampton
  • Illness kept Luke Shaw out of the win over Swansea last time out but Mauricio Pochettino has confirmed he will be available this weekend.
  • Artur Boruc sustained a hamstring injury while on international duty with Poland but he has recovered sufficiently to feature here.
  • Pablo Osvaldo picked up an ankle injury playing for Italy on Tuesday and so could be replaced by Jay Rodriguez here.

Prediction

  • Southampton have gone 6 hours and 22 Premier League minutes without conceding a single goal, but this weekend face the unenviable task of trying to extend that run at Old Trafford.
  • United haven't been at their best yet this season but the comeback victory over Sunderland will have raised spirits, while they have a good recent record against Saints.
  • The Red Devils have scored 21 goals in their last 6 home games against Southampton, winning on each occasion, and while goals may not come quite so easily this time out they should still pick up a vital 3 points.
