Match Preview: Cardiff vs Manchester United

Kick Off Time 5:00pm

Team News

Cardiff
  • Cardiff's 2-0 defeat to Aston Villa prior to the international break wasn't ideal preparation for the welcome of the Premier League champions on Sunday, but Malky Mackay is expected to name a similar XI to the team that lost at Villa Park.
  • Jordon Mutch could come in for Craig Bellamy on the flank in what is likely to be his only change to the starting XI.
  • Andreas Cornelius continues to recover from an ankle problem and could be available, albeit from the bench.
Manchester United
  • Manchester United's 1-0 win over Arsenal last time out thrust them back into the hunt for the title and the victory means they're unbeaten in their last 5 games, winning 4.
  • Nemanja Vidic and Robin van Persie are both doubts for manager David Moyes, but are expected to start for the defending champions at the Cardiff City Stadium.
  • Darren Fletcher, Michael Carrick, Danny Welbeck and Phil Jones will all sit out the trip to south Wales through injury.

Prediction

  • Cardiff City have been hugely inconsistent in their debut Premier League season having won 2 of their last 6 Premier League fixtures. Manager Malky Mackay knows he must turn the Cardiff City Stadium into a fortress and will be looking to claim a double scalp over the Manchester duo following the 3-2 win over City earlier this season.
  • United's win over Arsenal means they've won 3 successive Premier League fixtures and David Moyes will be demanding his side keep up their impressive form of late with the trip to the Premier League new boys.
  • The Bluebirds have lost 4 of their last 5 meetings with United in all competitions and while Cardiff will look to home advantage, they're likely to come unstuck against an in-form United side.
