News
- Raphael Varane is still recovering from injury, so Pepe is likely to get the nod in central defence alonside Sergio Ramos.
- Captain Iker Casillas is set to return to safeguard the Madrid goal at the Bernabeu for the first time since last January.
- Xabi Alonso is expected to return to the squad, but as he has missed the entire pre-season, is unlikely to make the starting line-up, with Sami Khedira expected to start instead, as new signing Asier Illarramendi is still not match fit.
- Real Madrid have had an excellent pre-season, winning six of their seven matches, including victories over top class European sides such as Chelsea, Inter Milan and Paris Saint-Germain.
- The absence of Ruben Castro, Betis' top scorer for the last three seasons, is a huge blow to Pepe Mel's side.
- Joan Verdu, signed from Espanyol, will give them attacking flair going forward.

Prediction
- Carlo Ancelotti will be taking charge of his first game at the Santiago Bernabeu and will be keen to impress the home support, to whom he has promised "wonderful football".
- Karim Benzema looks set to be Madrid's main centre-forward for the season following the departure of Gonzalo Higuain to Napoli, and this game is his chance to prove he is good enough to do the job on his own.
- A Betis side without their main attacking threat against Castro would do very well to take even a point from a Bernabeu eager to see what Ancelotti has to offer his new side.
