Match preview: West Bromwich Albion vs Arsenal

Kick Off Time 20:00

Team News

West Bromwich Albion
  • Matej Vydra, George Thorne, Shane Long, Steven Reid and Zoltan Gera are all on their way back from injuries and could be given some game time here after having played for the reserve team recently.
  • Ben Foster remains absent, but Luke Daniels should play ahead of Boaz Myhill as Steve Clarke makes changes for the cup.
  • Other changes could see Victor Anichebe and second round hat-trick hero Saido Berahino handed starts.
  • Chris Brunt is a doubt after missing the win over Sunderland with a groin injury.
Arsenal
  • With Arsenal's many injury problems, Arsene Wenger will probably opt to play a weakened side for the Capital One Cup trip to the Hawthorns.
  • This competition is never the Gunners' priority, so the likes of Nicklas Bendtner, Emmanuel Frimpong and Thomas Vermaelen could get the chance to build on their match fitness.
  • Wenger has announced that Fabianski has recovered in time to start in goal.

Prediction

  • These teams will be disappointed to have drawn Premier League opposition at such an early stage in the Capital One Cup this season, and will likely rest a fair few of their first team players ahead of tough away games in the league this weekend.
  • Arsenal have won their last 10 away games in all competitions, an all-time record for the club, and whilst the League Cup won't mean a great deal to them, winning this match and extending that run will do.
  • West Brom finally found their goalscoring touch at the weekend with a 3-0 win over Sunderland, but Steve Clarke will want to give the players that starred in that game and will play at Old Trafford this weekend a rest, so his team will be severely weakened, and significantly, more so than Arsenal's.
Prediction:
West Bromwich Albion
