Team News
Rayo Vallecano
- Rayo suffered their consecutive 0-5 away defeat last weekend, this time at the hands of Malaga, and have no respite at all this week, as they host Barcelona.
- The Catalans put five past Jemez's side last season and even conceding one goal fewer this time around would be considered a success.
- Jemez ranted that Rayo were the worst team in the league after the Atletico game, but was more upbeat after the Malaga match, saying he could not fault the player's effort.
- The only positive for Jemez is that he has no fresh injury concerns for the game.
Barcelona
- Jordi Alba has been ruled out of action until October after picking up a hamstring injury against Sevilla, meaning Adriano will come in for him at left-back.
- The relatively weak opposition will allow Gerardo Martino to rotate his squad following the match with Ajax, and the visit of Real Sociedad to the Camp Nou next Tuesday.
- Barca were very fortunate to take all three points against Sevilla, their defence looking vulnerable, and were saved by Messi's penetrating run into the box in injury time, leading to Alexis' winner.

Prediction
- Despite being punished for their open football against Malaga, Jemez is not a man who will send his team out to sit back, be physical and play on the counterattack, regardless of the arguments for or against such an approach against a team like Barcelona.
- Barca will have a much easier time in Vallecas than they did against Sevilla.
- This Rayo side is lightweight and inexperienced, which will suit Barcelona perfectly.
- Expect the Catalans to produce a similar performance to on the opening day of the season, when they blitzed Levante.
