Kendrick lamar explains that he will not do a feature unless he has "some type of connection" with the song.
Kendrick Lamar has definitely been on his feature game this year. Appearing on songs from Miguel, 50 Cent, Robin Thicke, Dido,
and more, sometimes it wasn't clear whether or not K. Dot was entirely
excited about the appearances, or was well-deservedly cashing in on his
popular demand. In a new interview with Life + Times, Kendrick argues
for the former, revealing that he will not do a feature if he does not
feel a certain connection with the song."You know I take features [and think] not really about the price, but really the songs that I like or I find some type of connection with." he explained. "I have to like the song. Cause if I don’t like the song then I’mma bring a trashy ass verse. You’re only as good as your last product no matter what it is. If it’s a verse, an interlude, or song.”
Kendrick then spoke more generally of his plans for his own music, as well as the TDE movement. “Music is powerful,” he said. “Everybody need to be hearing this music that I’m doing, that TDE’s doing. I feel the whole world can take heed to this. That’s my plan. Make the establishment bigger. Make the movement bigger. Make the brand bigger. And continue to build on the Hip Hop culture.”
