Match Preview: Stoke vs Chelsea

Kick Off 15:00

Team News

Stoke
  • Stoke secured a well deserved point in the 0-0 draw with Cardiff in midweek following the abysmal 4-0 thumping at the hands of Everton last weekend.
  • Manager Mark Hughes saw Erik Pieters limp off at half-time in the stalemate on Wednesday and he could miss out with Marc Muniesa likely to come in at left-back. Robert Huth is sidelined.
  • Jonathan Walters could come into the starting XI at the expense of Oussama Assaidi.
Chelsea
  • Chelsea kept up the pace on Premier League table toppers Arsenal with their 4-3 win over Sunderland and they'll be eager to pick up maximum points at Stoke.
  • The Blues will be without Marco van Ginkel and David Luiz through injury, while Oscar and Samuel Eto'o are doubts, but unlikely to be risked.
  • José Mourinho stated he would alternate his left-backs ahead of the game at Sunderland and after César Azpilicueta started on Wednesday, Ashley Cole is expected to come in.

Prediction

  • Stoke have failed to score in their last 4 Premier League meetings with Chelsea and manager Mark Hughes will be keen to end this poor goalscoring run at the weekend. They face a mountainous task against the Blues however with Chelsea unbeaten in their last 6 trips to the Britannia Stadium in all competitions, winning 4.
  • Chelsea sit 4 points off top spot and they'll want to keep up the pace with league leaders Arsenal. Their recent form against the Potters suggests that they'll be able to pick up maximum points with the trip to Stoke.
  • Hughes has won just 2 of his 15 meetings with former club Chelsea as a manager and this run is expected to continue at the weekend.
