Team News
Manchester United
- United fans will be praying that Robin van Persie is finally fit to return this weekend having failed to win any of the 5 Premier League games he has missed this season.
- If he doesn't make it, United will be in serious trouble up front, with Wayne Rooney suspended after picking up his fifth yellow card of the season in the week.
- Phil Jones returns from suspension and could be back in central midfield ahead of Marouane Fellaini.
- Shinji Kagawa is a doubt after picking up an illness.
Newcastle United
- Papiss Demba Cisse wasn't fit enough even to take a place on the bench in the loss at Swansea in midweek, and he is a doubt for the trip to Old Trafford.
- Otherwise, Ryan Taylor remains their only injury absentee.
- After losing so convincingly in Wales, Alan Pardew may consider changes ahead of this game, perhaps adding an extra man in midfield.
Match Facts
Prediction
- Manchester United went down 1-0 at home to Everton in midweek, and have now gone 3 games without a win. David Moyes' side are now 12 points off top spot and in real danger of surrendering their title at such an early stage.
- They have not lost successive home Premier League games since May 2002, though, and Newcastle may be on the end of a backlash here.
- The Magpies' 4 game winning streak was ended by a sudden and surprising 3-0 loss at Swansea, which highlighted inconsistencies that remain. If United have Robin van Persie back they will be huge favourites to win, while without him the task will be much bigger and possibly beyond them.
