Match Preview: Barcelona vs Granada

Kick Off Time 15:00

Team News

Barcelona
  • Tata Martino's biggest concern is Lionel Messi, who is out injured and not expected to return until January.
  • There are injury doubts surrounding Cesc Fabregas, however he could still be used as Messi's replacement in the front three.
  • While Messi's absence is a big blow to Barca, so too is the injury to Victor Valdes. The goalkeeper injured his right knee in Spain's friendly in South Africa and like his Argentine teammate, he will not be ready for action until the New Year.
  • Alexis Sanchez is expected to return to the starting XI after sitting out against Betis.
Granada
  • Right-back Nyom could make a return to the starting XI, while Lucas Alcaraz is expected to stick with the same front three he used in their victory over Levante.
  • Despite only returning from international duty on Thursday, Yacine Brahimi is expected to keep his place up front.

Prediction

  • With what can be called an injury crisis, Barca boss Tata Martino is forced into some reshuffling. The relatively inexperienced Sergio Roberto is expected to be drafted into the side as is Martin Montoya and Pinto, Victor Valdes' replacement. It all makes for a significantly weakened Barca side, though they should still prove far too strong for Granada.
  • While the Catalans are still loaded with world class acts, this game will show just how they may adjust in the coming months without a number of their first team regulars.
  • Granada have hit some form recently, though whether they can keep up this momentum following the international break remains to be seen. Most likely, with the monumental task that awaits them at Camp Nou, even without Messi, Getafe will be up against it and are expected to fall to defeat.
