Match Preview: Steaua Bucuresti vs Chelsea

Kick Off Time 7:45 pm

Team News

Steaua Bucuresti
  • Steaua will again be without Alexandru Chipciu and Stefan Nikolic, but otherwise they have little to worry about in terms of injury.
  • They could field an unchanged team from the XI that lost at Schalke in the opening match, but given the 3-0 scoreline, could be tempted into making changes.
  • Federico Plovaccari could start up front after scoring at the weekend, while an injury suffered in training by Mihai Pintilii is threatening to rule him out.
Chelsea
  • Fernando Torres will start up front in Europe as he is suspended in domestic competition after his sending off at Tottenham at the weekend.
  • Eden Hazard has not travelled after picking up an injury in that game.
  • Kevin De Bruyne has been dropped and hasn't travelled after a particularly poor performance at Swindon last week.
  • Otherwise Chelsea have a fully fit squad for the trip to Romania.

Prediction

  • Chelsea travel to Romania for this Champions League clash searching for their first points of the campaign after a loss to Basel a fortnight ago.
  • Steaua lost 3-0 at Schalke last time out and so are also looking to get off the mark here, but Chelsea provide the toughest opposition in their group for that task.
  • Chelsea overcame the Romanian side 1-0 in the first leg of their Europa League clash last season before the Blues ran out 3-1 winners at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea have only won 1 away game this season and that was at Swindon, but they will be wary after losing this tie back in March and should be prepared.
