The Spanish Football Federation will offer national team boss Vicente del Bosque a two-year contract extension, reports AS.
The proposal is understood to be on the table as soon
as qualification for next year’s World Cup is mathematically achieved,
with La Roja needing four points from this week’s games against Belarus
and Georgia to take their place in Brazil.
It is understood the contract and its conditions have already been
prepared and Jorge Perez, RFEF general secretary, told AS that “Del
Bosque is part of Spain’s
football heritage” and confirmed that “we have not sought any
alternative for the post of Coach. Del Bosque will be with us until he
wants and for as many years as he wants.”Del Bosque, 62, has been in charge of the national team for 80 games, more than any other Coach in its history and ahead of the legendary Ladislao Kubala and Miguel Munoz, who led Spain 68 and 63 times respectively.
He also has the best record of any other boss: 65 wins, eight draws and just seven losses, with Spain having scored 197 goals and conceded 53 during an era that has seen the World Cup and a European Championship won.
Salamanca-born Del Bosque is believed to be aware of the RFEF’s intention to renew his contract.
“I want to continue and will do whatever the Federation wants,” he is reported to have said.
However, his response will not be immediate as he wants to ensure qualification for Brazil and subsequently put up a good showing there.
Then, if agreement is reached, he will put pen to paper on a deal that will take him to the 2016 European Championships to be held in France.
