Match Preview: Manchester City vs Manchester United

Kick Off Time 16:00

Team News

Manchester City
  • Manchester City's European campaign got off to an excellent start with the 3-0 win over Viktoria Plzen and head coach Manuel Pellegrini could name the same starting XI for the Manchester derby.
  • David Silva missed the trip to the Czech Republic and is doubtful for the encounter with a hip problem.
  • Martín Demichelis, Micah Richards and Gael Clichy will all sit out the welcome of Manchester United through injury.
Manchester United
  • Manchester United, like their neighbours, picked up an opening round Champions League win following the dispatching of Bayer Leverkusen, with the hosts running out 4-2 winners at Old Trafford.
  • Wayne Rooney netted his 200th United goal in the victory and will be expected to reprise his role in the starting XI.
  • David Moyes could make 1 change from the win, however, with Shinji Kagawa dropping to the bench at the expense of the much talked about Ashley Young.
  • Darren Fletcher, Rafael, Phil Jones and Danny Welbeck will all sit out the trip to the Etihad through injury.

Prediction

  • Manchester City's win in Europe was the perfect tonic following the disappointing 0-0 draw with Stoke City, but head coach Manuel Pellegrini's side will face a much sterner test against a Manchester United side who have won their last 2 games.
  • The Chilean will look towards his defence as a means of denying United, with no team keeping more than the 21 clean sheets they have earned in the Premier League since the beginning of the 2012/13 season.
  • Wayne Rooney will be tasked with breaking down the resolute City backline, having either scored or assisted 40 goals in his last 44 Premier League games. However, with 6 of the last 7 meetings between both sides at the Etihad seeing fewer than 2 goals scored, a tight low scoring affair is on the cards.
Prediction: 1
