Ilorin – Prof. AbdulGaniyu Ambali,
the Vice Chancellor, University of Ilorin, has advised the Federal
Government and striking lecturers to reach a consensus.
Ambali gave the advice in
Ilorin while speaking with journalists at the Vice Chancellor’s
Lodge.
He said no lecturer
derives joy in going on strike and appealed to both parties to work
for the
restoration of academic activities in universities.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN)
reports that the university’s branch of ASUU, however, did not join the
strike.
“ The two parties should go back to
the drawing board and discuss their grievances and reach an
agreement.
“I appeal to the two parties to
close the gap, understand each other and come to terms on the demands of the
striking lecturers,” he said.
Ambali also said the
university would soon start generating electricity from alternative sources
using its dam, solar power and waste.
He further said the
university’s scientists were working round the clock on the alternative
sources of energy.
Ambali added that several proposals
were received from interested companies to partner with the university on the
project. (NAN)
