Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed
Christian Church of God is 71 this year. On this note, the man of God,
for the umpteenth time, has been asked to leave office as the Church’s
General Overseer.
In 2010, four Assistant General Overseers of the
Church, Pastors M.O. Ojo, Ilori, Aderibigbe and D. Ojo, were said to
have been retired by Pastor Adeboye on account of being 70.
The hit,
this time, was said to be increasing, according to sources, that the man
of God had to seek help from former President Olusegun Obasanjo.
The
fact that Pastor Adeboye is said to be Chief Obasanjo’s bosom friend,
and that the army general had some level of influence on some of the
troublesome RCCG pastors, we gathered, may eventually douse the current
tension.
Sometime last year, immediately after Pastor Adeboye
celebrated his 70th, some Europe-based pastors of RCCG made the first
call for him to quit on account of old age, demanding that a younger
blood be allowed to take over the mantle of leadership of the Church.
About
10 top pastors from the branches of the Church were said to have met
with the revered man of God this time to drive their demand.
One of the reasons adduced, we heard, was that Pastor Adeboye is already above 70, the age limit for the Church’s G.O.
