Nigeria’s military Joint Task (JTF) in Kano yesterday
announced the killing of more Boko Haram sect fighters in Kano and the
recovery of arms and ammunition.
In a statement sent to
journalists in the city, JTF spokesman Captain Ikedichi Iweha, added
that the troops also intercepted arms being transported to Zamfara State
by the same sect.
In the operation, which was carried out at
about 7:30 pm on Monday alongside personnel of the Department of State
Service, Kano Command he said the JTF mounted a snap check point along
Kankara – Sheme road in Katsina State to intercept terrorists fleeing
from operations in the north eastern axis of the country.
“Two
terrorists were intercepted and apprehended on their way to Zamfara
State,” he said. “Two AK 47 rifles, 4 magazines, and 68 rounds of
7.62mm special ammunition were recovered from them in a Nissan Sunny
car.”
He stated that a follow-up cordon-and-search operation was
conducted this morning at Gayawa general area of Ungogo Local Government
Area in which two terrorists lost their lives in a shootout with
troops. Items recovered from them included two AK 47 rifles, five
magazines and 91 rounds of 7.62 special ammunition.
