Match Preview: Chelsea vs Manchester City

Kick Off Time 4:00pm

Team News

Chelsea
  • Chelsea moved into second following the 4-1 win over Cardiff City at the weekend and after dispatching of Schalke 04 with ease, will be confident ahead of the welcome of Manchester City.
  • Ashley Cole trained with the squad ahead of the 3-0 win in Germany on Tuesday, but remains a doubt with a rib problem, although he's expected to start.
  • José Mourinho must decide who to start up front, with Fernando Torres and Samuel Eto'o vying for spot in the team following their goalscoring exploits the past week.
  • Marco van Ginkel and Tomas Kalas are Chelsea's only long-term absentees.
Manchester City
  • Manchester City have now won their last 3 consecutive Premier League games 3-1 following the victory at West Ham United on Saturday and manager Manuel Pellegrini will be pleased with their recent run of form following the defeat to Bayern Munich.
  • The Chilean still has doubts over the full fitness of Vincent Kompany and Martín Demichelis, with Javi García expected to continue alongside Matija Nastasic at centre-back.
  • Jesús Navas may come into the starting XI after missing the win over West Ham, but playing the full 90 minutes against CSKA Moscow.

Prediction

  • José Mourinho is unbeaten in his last 64 Premier League home games as Chelsea manager, winning 50 of them, and the Blues boss will be keen to extend that run with the welcome of Manchester City. However, the west London side have won just 1 of their last 5 meetings with the Citizens in all competitions.
  • The run of form will boost City boss Manuel Pellegrini as he aims to secure back-to-back Premier League victories against London opposition following the 3-1 win over West Ham United in the capital last weekend. His side have won just once away from home in the league this term and the Chilean will need to improve their fortunes on the road if they're to wrestle the title away from rivals Manchester United.
  • This fixture last season ended in a disappointing 0-0 draw and it's expected that this encounter will see the spoils shared at Stamford Bridge.
